Say hello to Pearl. Shes a silly and sweet little girl, and is looking for a forever home to treat her like a fine jewel.
Pearl was relinquished to a shelter in sad shape. She had rotten teeth, yeast overgrowth was causing hair loss, and she had mammary tumors. Despite all of that, she had a precious look about her. She caught the eye of one of our loyal CRT volunteers who just knew she was worth saving. Thank you to this kind volunteer for stepping up to foster Pearl, and for literally saving her life. This is something that makes CRT special

we pull dogs with various needs.
Pearl has come a long way. She has received the medical care she needed, which required the removal of both her canines. She still has plenty of teeth to gobble her food. Thankfully the biopsy on the tumors came back negative. After lots of tender loving care and high quality food and supplements, she has improved but continues to struggle with hairloss and swollen feet. This is likely due to environmental allergies and is controllable. Our vet has prescribed inexpensive medicine for her thyroid condition, and suggested regular baths as part of her ongoing care to keep her skin soft and healthy. Pearl takes it all in stride! Even with so little fur, she is still very cute and lovable! Shes quite an endearing little dog.
Pearl loves her people. She tends to fall in love with a specific person who becomes her person. She loves to cuddle and sit on your lap. Her new family will need to be aware that sometimes she will resource guard her person. While sitting on your lap, she may let out a little growl if another person gets too close. Her new family would need to be aware of this tendency and address it before it would become a bigger issue. She does not resource guard her food or toys. When meeting new people Pearl can be a little nervous. But she warms up quickly, enjoying the attention and petting she gets from her new friends. Shes been great at all her doctor visits and is tolerant of being handled and examined.
One of Pearls favorite past-times is burying herself under a blanket with just the tip of her snout sticking out. She likes to be near you or on your lap while youre watching TV. But if shes too comfy snuggled under that blanket, that is where she will stay while you go about your daily work! She gets silly sometimes and will throw herself under your hand so that you are forced to give her belly rubs and attention. Pearl is quite comical and brings smiles to her foster parents lives every day.
Pearl is super easy to love. She is a lap dog and really enjoys her family time. Her ideal world would be to hang around family members 24/7. She will be great for a retired couple or a work from home family. Honestly, she would be great for any family. She has a relaxed personality and loves to be any where you are. She also loves to travel. She has taken long road trips with her foster family and loves the adventure! We believe Pearls best fit would be an all adult home or a home with older, mature children. She has a moderate activity level and loves quiet days with her family and friends. She would do fine as an only dog. She would also fit in fine with another adult dog that isnt overly playful and respects her space.
Pearl is about 10 years old. We believe she has several great years ahead of her (remember that Chihuahuas can live to be 15

20 years old!). She weighs a perfect 6.5 pounds. Pearl is tri-color (black, brown and white). Her fur is a bit thin, but she is working on growing it longer. Honestly, we do not know if it will ever grow thicker. But she is soft and sweet just the way she is!
Pearl is crate-trained and housetrained, and does well on leash. She enjoys walks outside, and lying in the sunshine when its warm outside. Shes tolerant of other dogs but is generally not playful or engaging with them. Every once in a while shell run alongside her foster brother when hes chasing a tennis ball in the yard but we think thats more about being the Fun Police than about having fun! LOL.
Overall Pearl is silly and sweet, snuggly and very lovable! Her new family will be lucky to have her.
